A certified business valuation is a formal appraisal of what your company is worth, prepared by a credentialed appraiser using recognized standards, and documented so the conclusion can be defended to whoever needs to rely on it: a buyer, a bank, a judge, a partner, or the IRS.
When you need one
Owners come to us for certified valuations when they’re preparing to sell within the next one to three years, buying out or being bought out by a partner, securing SBA or conventional financing, gifting or transferring ownership to family, divorcing, settling an estate, or simply setting a baseline before a value-growth plan. In every one of those situations, an informal estimate creates risk that a certified report removes.
What you receive
A written report covering your company’s financial performance (recast to show its true earning power), the asset, income, and market approaches to value, the multiples actually paid for comparable businesses, and a reconciled final conclusion of value with the reasoning shown. You’ll understand not just the number but what drives it, which is the starting point for growing it.
Why certification matters
Anyone can give you a number. What matters is whether the number holds when tested. As a Business Certified Appraiser (BCA) and Certified Merger & Acquisition Professional (CM&AP), I prepare valuations to professional appraisal standards. Certified business valuations start at $2,500. Returning clients who revalue annually get $500 off each consecutive-year valuation. And your engagement fee is credited toward our success fee when VR sells your business.
